Gifted three year old sprinter Zamorar can improve on his already impressive record by taking out the third race at Caulfield on Saturday.
Trained at Seymour by the astute horseman David Bourne, Zamorar will carry 57kgs on Saturday after the 3kg claim for apprentice Jake Duffy. Significantly, it means he will only carry 3kgs above the minimum despite a markedly higher handicap rating than that of his rivals.
With the rail at Caulfield back in the true position, Duffy should have no trouble using Zamorar’s brilliant gate speed and early pace to send him straight to the lead from the inside barrier.
A winner by over three lengths at each of his two starts over the specialist 1000 metre distance, Zamorar should also relish the expected slow ground. From two runs on genuine dead tracks he boasts an easy win at Moonee Valley on grand final eve, as well as a fourth beaten in a photo for third, in the G1 Coolmore Stakes.
At his only run on slow ground, Zamorar was beaten a long neck on debut by the very talented sprinter Hallowell Belle despite conceding the filly two preparations in race experience.
Currently in only his second preparation at what will be only his seventh career start on Saturday, it is reasonable to assume Zamorar has plenty of improvement and maturity still to come.
After a brilliant first up win at Moonee Valley over 1000 metres, where he was simply too fast for the older sprinters, Bourne took Zamorar across to Adelaide where his run in the G2 3YO Classic (1200m) was full of merit. Though he was beaten 1.8 lengths into fourth as favourite, after drawing the outside barrier he was trapped wide on the speed throughout and could have been forgiven had he dropped out altogether.
Currently rated around $2.30 in the early market on the exchange, in my opinion anything over black figures ($2.00) represents terrific value for a horse that should definitely be odds on.
